At ACG Productions, we're proud to provide our Legacy Film service. At it's core, a Legacy Film is a video interview of a loved one sharing their life story. It preserves family history, stories, and memories for generations to come. It's a gift of memory and connection! We absolutely love making Legacy Films for families and I wanted to share a recent Legacy Film project I completed for Paul Feith.
I met Paul Feith in 2025 through a group called the Association of Consultants to Nonprofits. We are both members and, as the organization name suggests, work with nonprofits, and I reached out to Paul to have a meeting so we could get to know one another. I figured we'd talk about our nonprofit work, and we did, but as Paul was looking through our website, he saw that we do Legacy Films. He was very interested in this and told me that he conducted interviews with his parents years ago but never got around to editing the footage, and he asked if I would edit his footage. Of course I would! He immediately shared the footage with me and after looking through it, I told him I could help.
I really have to give kudos to Paul for conducting such beautiful interviews with his Mom, Dad, and with both of them together. He asked them thoughtful, reflective, fun, and even silly questions. It really helped me while editing and the videos came together so well.
Paul's Mom, Eleanor, gave such a lovely interview. She was honest and totally herself. She told stories about growing up in Staten Island, New York, living in a small house with her parents, grandparents, and four siblings. It was crowded, with kids sharing rooms and beds, people sleeping in the living room, but they didn't think anything of it! She said, "you did that those days! Kids didn't sleep one in a bed. You didn't have your own bed. You always slept with somebody."
I really loved the story she told about shopping with her Mother one day around her birthday. Eleanor's Mom went into a store and asked if they had any ruby rings, because Eleanor's birthstone was ruby. The clerk showed them what they had and Eleanor's Mom asked her which one she liked. Eleanor knew her Mom couldn't afford it, but she picked out a ring, and her Mom bought it. She also bought her a fountain pen and a beautiful dress that day, and told Eleanor "happy birthday." Hearing Eleanor tell this story brought tears to me eyes and hers. She said they never got birthday gifts in her family because they couldn't afford it, but her Mom made it work that one time and made her feel so special. What a beautiful story!
Paul's Dad, Robert, also gave a great interview and shared the story of how he and Eleanor met. As he tells is, she was supposed to go out with someone else but for whatever reason that guy couldn't go, so Robert took his place. A blind date! He said she was wearing a white blouse and flowered skirt and he knew immediately he was going to marry her. "She didn't know that though," he said with a smirk. So sweet! The two dated for a few years and saved up their money for a wedding, which cost them $400. I'm sure it was a lot of money back then but wow have things changed!
My favorite thing about Robert and Eleanor's interview together is just seeing how the two interacted. They agreed, disagreed, were playful, and poked fun at each other. It was so fun! They talked about who's the better cook, what makes each other laugh, how Robert proposed, and more. Interviewing the two of them together was very smart!
Paul was so smart to interview his parents while they were happy and healthy. He was able to capture to many great stories and memories that will now last for generations to come. Even though he let this footage sit for a few years, all that matters is that it's now edited into three beautiful videos. Eleanor has since passed, and Paul let me know that his Dad loves to watch these videos. I can't think of anything more rewarding than that, and I'm so happy I was able to give him that gift.
